DDA Renovation Case | Comprehensive Analysis of the Renovation Design for Yuncheng Shenzhen Airlines

The phrase "Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west of the river" refers to the region east of the Yellow River – Yuncheng, Shanxi. This ancient city, named for its location east of the Yellow River, is one of the important cradles of Chinese civilization.

In 2022, after a comprehensive upgrade and renovation designed by DDA Danuo International Design Group, the Shenzhen Airlines International Hotel Yuncheng (formerly the Airport Resort) emerged anew on the land east of the river, becoming a new benchmark for the regional hotel industry. This transformation not only doubled room rates and significantly increased occupancy (maintaining an average of over 70% year-round) but also perfectly integrated profound regional culture with modern design. Let's explore the highlights of this renewed luxury five-star hotel spanning approximately 50,000 square meters.

The predecessor of Shenzhen Airlines International Hotel Yuncheng was the Airport Resort, which opened in the early 2000s. Nearly 20 years of operation had left its style and facilities outdated, struggling to meet the demands of the new era. Located at No. 9, Guanggong East Street, Yuncheng Airport New Area, the project boasts an excellent geographical position: adjacent to Yuncheng Zhangxiao Airport and bordering Yuncheng East Garden, with a well-developed transportation network. With over 60% green coverage, the hotel features independent green gardens, a fishing pond, and an aviary, making it a significant venue in the Yellow River Golden Triangle region integrating dining, accommodation, conferences, recreation, and leisure.

Yuncheng, anciently known as Hedong or Phoenix City, has a long history and rich culture, with deep roots in salt transportation culture, Guanggong culture, and root-seeking culture. The DDA design team delved deeply into the essence of Southern Shanxi culture, integrating elements such as traditional architectural culture, phoenix culture, salt transportation culture, historical humanities, and local aviation culture into the design.

• Facade: A Transparent and Modern New Image.
  

The original European-style building lacked transparency. The renovation introduced large-area glass curtain walls, significantly enhancing the building's modernity and transparency, allowing indoor and outdoor scenery to blend, and imbuing the structure with new vitality and contemporary spirit.

  • Lobby: Modern Interpretation of Cultural Heritage

  Stepping into the renewed lobby, a rich cultural atmosphere is immediately palpable. The design abandoned the complexity of traditional crystal chandeliers, instead drawing inspiration from regional elements like Guanggong culture and the Salt Lake scenery, expressing them abstractly through modern design techniques. The spatial layout is more open and grand, while the use of materials and tones creates an atmosphere that blends cultural charm with modern efficiency.

• • Dining & Meetings: Comprehensive Upgraded Experience

  Spaces including the Chinese Restaurant, Western Restaurant, Grand Ballroom (capacity 600), Xihua Hall (185), and East Meeting Room (208) were all comprehensively upgraded. While meeting the demands of high-end banquets and conferences, the design incorporated cultural elements to elevate the spatial ambiance and user experience.
